Who we are

Applied Comics Etc was founded by Lydia Wysocki, building on the Newcastle Science Comics project she led with a team of seven editors. We continue to work as a team, with different collaborators for different projects. Click to read more about ‘Our people’.

You are looking at our website (https://appliedcomicsetc.com); we are also on Twitter but not currently tweeting (https://twitter.com/@appliedcomics).

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

In short, we collect as little data as possible and treat that data with respect. This section is written to give more detail as clearly as possible, avoiding technical language.

Cookies

This website uses as few cookies as possible (specifically: WordPress, plugins for WordPress, Jetpack, and Google Analytics), for the usability of the website. We’ll assume you’re ok with this, but you can opt-out if you wish.

Analytics

We use WordPress and Google Analytics to view anonymised data including how many users click on pages on this website. Without using analytics we would have no idea if anyone visits our website.

Email newsletter sign up

You are welcome to sign up for our free email newsletter, sent once every few months when we have project news to share. Without your email address we would not be able to send you our free email newsletter.

Who we share your data with

As few people as possible. There are no adverts on this website. Our email newsletter signup uses Mailchimp software with two-factor authentication, so your email address is stored securely. Through WordPress, we use an automated spam detection service to prevent fake email signups.

What rights you have over your data

You can request that your email address is deleted from our records at any time. You can manage your own email signup settings by clicking on the Mailchimp link the next time you receive an email newsletter from us. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
